Poor Quality
When I first purchased the laptop, there were problems after another. I guess I was so excited about having a new computer, I didn't realize how bad the problems really were. I keep getting error messages about windows and sony not being compatible. The sony utility kept closing as an error message. Many times I got a black screen when booting for about 20 mins or more. Last, my motherboard crashed on me just when the warranty expires. Sony wants $499 to replace and others want about $300, but the economy sucks and I have no more money. I don't carry my computer around and I am the only user (used for personal/business purposes). So, I am really sadden that I cannot get at least three years out of my new laptop.
Excellent for $399
I got this on black friday at Best Buy so we have had it for a year. Can't beat it for the price. I have had only 2 problems with it:
1) the SD slot no longer "holds" my memory card so I have to keep it inserted with my finger.
2) I also have had a problem with the wireless connectivity on this computer. The wireless connection disconnects randomly about once per day and says "No wireless networks found" although there are about 6 wireless networks in the neighborhood. The only way to fix this is to shut down the computer by holding down the on/off key for 5 seconds, then restarting. Someone else here said to upgrade this computer to the most recent BIOS and drivers, provided on the Sony website so I did so today. I will see if upgrading the hardware drivers and the BIOS fixes this problem completely.
good computer
I bought my viao laptop at a Circuit City outlet for about $300 because it was a floor model. I've had it for about 6 months and everything is still working just great. I use the typical Microsoft programs and also use a number of photo correction and storage programs. Occasionally I watch videos on the laptop and the images is beautiful. I would recommend this machine.
